Country superstar Darius Rucker is heading back to his hometown for a special one-night-only event: the Darius Rucker Big Band Gala, presented by Explore Charleston, on Tuesday, April 7 at the Gaillard Center. Nashville fans know Rucker as a powerhouse on the country charts and a proud Grand Ole Opry member, but this rare gala gives audiences a chance to experience him in an intimate, elevated setting backed by the Robert Lewis Orchestra, conducted by Peter Graves.
A portion of proceeds benefits the CMA Foundation’s music education initiatives in Charleston County Schools and the Carolyn G. Rucker Nursing Scholarship at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, continuing Rucker’s long history of giving back to the community that shaped him.
“These big band shows are some of my favorite nights,” Rucker says. “It’s the only time I get to perform so many of the standards we grew up listening to, with the backing of an incredible orchestra—and it all supports amazing local causes.”
Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. via GaillardCenter.org, ranging from $50 to $250. All tickets are non-transferable and delivered electronically 48 hours before the show.
Rucker first rose to fame as lead singer and rhythm guitarist of GRAMMY Award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish, whose debut album Cracked Rear View remains one of the top-selling studio albums of all time. Since launching his country career in 2008, he has scored four No. 1 albums, 10 No. 1 singles, and multiple Gold and Platinum hits. His Diamond-certified hit “Wagon Wheel” earned him a third GRAMMY Award in 2014. His latest album, Carolyn’s Boy, and his New York Times bestselling memoir, Life’s Too Short (Dey Street, 2024), are available now.
A committed philanthropist, Rucker co-chaired the campaign that raised $150 million to build MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, has contributed over $5.1 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and supports hundreds of charitable initiatives through the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation.
The Darius Rucker Big Band Gala is a night of timeless music, hometown pride, and giving back—bringing the soul of Charleston to life with big band flair.
